Manitowoc 21000: Attaching the Boom

This takes team work!

The 1000 ton capacity Manitowoc 21000 holds up its end of the boom by using its
mast as the hoisting boom.  The Manitowoc 999 holds up the boom tip end as the
21000 model guides the boom with its mast being raised to close the gap and allow
connection of the pins holding the boom to the crane.  I witnessed this and found the
effort to be very smoothly coordinated by the assembly team.  The whole assembly
of the crane takes a few days!

A closer view of the mast block, before assembled into the Mast!
