Patient Preparation
After the patient has been properly sedated with
medication using the
intravenous infusion set-up, and the proper nutrative saline solution is
likewise properly infusing at prescribed rates; the patient is carefully
rolled onto or slid on the surgical gurney and strapped in snug.
Nurses and orderlies assist in controlling the IV bags and infusing
pump gear, if the gurney is not equipped with IV support hangers.
The Operating Room Staff by this time has completed sterilizing and
wrapping the entire assortment of instrument trays, and concurrently;
the operating table has been readied for the patient based on the exact
technique planned by the surgeon. The correct anesthesia delivery
equipment including the vaporizers and monitoring accessories is
positioned near the operating table before the gurney carrying the
patient is rolled in to the "O.R." The surgeon, his
assistant/resident,
the nurse surgical assistant, the nurse-anesthetist, and the circulating
nurse now scrub in for the operation just prior to patient's arrival.
