Trail King S300 Superload Transporter turns left off Route 2 into the DBNPS
Contractor Entrance!
Folks you are probably wondering how the load managed to avoid
the powerline pole!
The 4-axle tractor section has the easy job! The "skill job" is taken care of by
a highly trained operator,
who can be seen standing atop a platform mounted to the back section of the transporter.
The operator will
adjust the section positions as needed to pull the transporter center holding the load
into a wider arc.
The truck turning is the first phase of positioning. The next phase is having the
last two sections steer straight
far enough to swing the transporter middle section past the pole safely. The last phase is
when the final
pivot pieces align in an arc to complete the left turn without making the transporter
center section
leave its centerline at a right angle to the road it turned from. When the center
section bearing the head
has passed a distance into the access road, the final pivot pieces re-align to the
centerline of path.
For each turn it had to make, once inside the Owner Controlled area, the pivoting process
repeated,
the positioning requirements of the pivot sections depending on how many degrees the turn
required.
Another interesting transporter feature is the load elevation
controls, located at both ends of
the center transporter section. There are two lifting towers, each one posted at the
top of a pivot point,
below which are attached two lower pivoting sections. The towers can each
hydraulically lift the
center section a short distance upward to clear rails or other road items. Amazing
equipment!
As for the tractor section, it is powered by a Kenworth!
